St. Ignace, MI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect overnight for Western Mackinac County, where heavy snow and strong winds are expected to create dangerous travel conditions into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
Forecasters report 4 to 8 inches of snow likely, with localized totals possibly exceeding 11 inches in some areas. Winds up to 35 mph will lead to blowing and drifting snow, especially along the US-2 corridor, creating whiteout conditions at times.
The heaviest snow is expected to continue through the overnight hours before tapering off late Tuesday morning. Travel may be very difficult, particularly during the morning commute, as visibility drops quickly and roads become slick.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles in case of unexpected delays.
Conditions are expected to improve by midday Tuesday as winds ease and snow begins to diminish.
