Alpena, MI – A winter storm warning remains in effect for parts of Northern Michigan, with additional snowfall and hazardous travel conditions expected overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the storm will bring an extra 2 to 4 inches of snow before tapering off by 7 a.m. Thursday. Winds could cause blowing snow, reducing visibility to under a quarter-mile in some areas. Affected counties include Alpena, Alcona, Ogemaw, Iosco, Gladwin, and Arenac.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous, impacting the Thursday morning commute. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, as snowfall and drifting may create treacherous conditions.
Travelers are advised to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water. Anyone venturing out should allow extra time and check for road closures or delays.
The winter storm is part of a broader system impacting the Great Lakes region, with Michigan seeing steady snowfall this week. More updates will be available as conditions develop.
