Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan remains under a winter storm warning with heavy snow and strong winds expected to create hazardous conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the warning for Eastern Mackinac, Western Chippewa, and Western Mackinac counties, along with Beaver Island, will last until 7 p.m. Wednesday. These areas are projected to see an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow accompanied by gusts up to 35 mph.
For Leelanau, Benzie, and Manistee counties, the winter storm warning extends until 1 a.m. Thursday. Winds may reach speeds of 40 mph in these areas, compounding the risk of whiteout conditions.
Travelers should expect slick and potentially treacherous roads, with visibility dropping below 1/4 mile at times. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, maintain extra space between vehicles, and allow additional time for travel.
