Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of northern Michigan, with snow, ice, and gusty winds expected to impact travel conditions through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the advisory affects multiple counties in eastern Upper and northern Lower Michigan, including Emmet, Grand Traverse, Chippewa, and Mackinac. The weather system is expected to bring up to two inches of snow, a light glaze of ice, and wind gusts reaching 40 mph. Hazardous conditions will persist from Wednesday evening through 7 a.m. Thursday.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick, particularly where standing water freezes overnight. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, as blowing snow and ice accumulation could create hazardous travel conditions. The advisory warns of potential disruptions to the Thursday morning commute.
Additional snowfall of up to two inches is forecasted for Luce and Schoolcraft counties, while Delta and Menominee counties may see up to an inch. Strong winds could further reduce visibility, making travel difficult, especially in open areas.
Residents should slow down, allow extra time for travel, and take precautions when walking on icy surfaces. Authorities urge caution and preparedness as conditions deteriorate overnight.
