Clare, Mich. – Residents across Clare and Osceola counties should prepare for an early taste of autumn as temperatures dip to near 35 degrees overnight, bringing the risk of frost formation by early Monday morning. Sensitive plants and late-season gardens could take a hit if left uncovered.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m. Monday. The advisory covers both Clare and Osceola counties, including the cities of Clare and Reed City, where clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall sharply before sunrise.
Homeowners are urged to protect outdoor vegetation by covering tender plants or bringing them inside. Even a brief period of frost can damage crops, flowers, and vegetable gardens. The advisory is especially important for farmers and gardeners who are still tending late-summer harvests.
Drivers may also notice patchy fog in low-lying areas near rivers and fields as temperatures cool, which could briefly reduce visibility during early morning commutes.
The advisory will expire by mid-morning once temperatures rise above freezing, but cooler-than-average conditions are expected to linger into the week. More chilly mornings may follow as fall weather settles in across western Michigan.
