Marquette, Michigan – Smoke will dominate the skies over Marquette and parts of western Upper Michigan on Wednesday, July 30, limiting visibility and raising air quality concerns as summer conditions persist. While storms have cleared, haze remains the biggest midweek issue, especially along US-41 and near Sawyer International Airport.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, calm winds and high temperatures near 70°F will allow smoke from distant wildfires to settle across the region. Areas of haze are expected from mid-morning through late afternoon. Residents with respiratory sensitivities should limit outdoor activity.
Communities across Baraga, Houghton, and Dickinson counties will also see similar smoke patterns Wednesday, with the densest haze developing after 9 a.m. Visibility may drop below 5 miles in some low-lying areas. Although no hazardous weather is expected through Monday, the NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook due to reduced air quality concerns Tuesday night into Wednesday.
No rain or storm activity is forecast through the weekend, offering sunny skies but stagnant air. Thursday and Friday will bring highs in the mid-70s with clear conditions, making it ideal for outdoor plans—if air quality improves.
