GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Crisp air and clear skies open the day across western Michigan, with the first light glinting off backyard frost and quiet fields east of the city. After a stretch of calm and sunshine, another system is closing in — one that could bring light rain back to the region just as Halloween plans take shape.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, today and Thursday will stay bright and mild, with highs in the mid-50s and only a light east wind. Clouds increase late Thursday ahead of a weak cold front expected to reach Lake Michigan’s shore by Friday afternoon. A few scattered showers could arrive by midday, becoming more likely through the evening as trick-or-treat events begin.

Rain amounts look light, but wet roads and breezy conditions may still make costumes and travel trickier by dusk. The best window for outdoor events appears before 6 p.m., when showers should remain isolated and temperatures hover near 50°F. By late evening, readings drop into the upper 30s, with wind off the lake adding a chill.

Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and a continued chance for a few lake-driven sprinkles south and west of U.S. 131, while inland areas turn drier. Sunday should rebound with filtered sun and seasonable air near 50°F — a good day for yard cleanup or early holiday decorating before November’s colder trend returns.

And don’t forget — clocks fall back early Sunday morning. A chilly November lies ahead.
