Gaylord, Michigan – Storms are brewing in northern Michigan just in time to disrupt weekend plans across Otsego County.

Rain and thunderstorms are likely in Gaylord starting by 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, with a 60% chance of showers continuing into the evening. The heaviest activity is expected through the afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms possibly lingering past 5 p.m. Highs will reach near 81°F, but don’t let that fool you—soggy conditions may limit visibility and slow traffic on U.S. Route 131 and M-32.

Southwest winds of up to 15 mph could accompany the storms. Residents are urged to avoid scheduling outdoor events or road travel during peak storm hours.

By Sunday, the system clears, bringing much more typical July weather. Sunny skies dominate Sunday through Tuesday, with highs gradually climbing: 80°F on Sunday, 85°F Monday, and a hot 88°F by Tuesday. Winds remain light and skies mostly clear overnight with lows around 60–66°F.

Though Saturday brings a brief weather interruption, the extended forecast points to prime summer conditions for outdoor recreation or travel early next week.

Looking ahead:

  • 🌞 Sunday (80°F): Sunny and dry, perfect for lakeshore outings.
  • 🌞 Monday (85°F): Clear skies, ideal for summer drives.
  • 🌤️ Tuesday (88°F): Hot and mostly sunny, drink plenty of water outdoors.

Storm warnings are not expected to continue past Saturday night, but updates may follow.
