DETROIT, Mich. – A calm, clear morning greets metro Detroit, but change is brewing across southeast Michigan. After a bright start, clouds will thicken and winds will stiffen ahead of a late-October rain system sweeping in from the west. By Thursday, wet pavement and blustery gusts will replace today’s quiet stretch—but the payoff will be worth it: a dry, comfortable Halloween for the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers are expected to develop after sunrise Thursday, with occasional steady rain through the afternoon. Winds may gust up to 25 mph along I-94 and I-75, especially from Ann Arbor to downtown Detroit. Temperatures will hover near 50°F under thickening clouds.
Drivers should allow extra time for slick commutes Thursday afternoon and secure outdoor decorations ahead of gusty periods. Rainfall totals should remain light, between a tenth and a quarter inch, before clearing Thursday night as cooler, drier air filters in.
Friday brings the best weather of the week—sunshine, light northwest breezes, and highs near 65°F. Trick-or-Treat events Friday evening will feature crisp, fall-perfect air with temperatures holding in the 50s under partly clear skies.
The weekend will stay pleasant, with partly sunny conditions and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Looking into early November, temperatures are expected to dip once again, signaling a cooler pattern that could bring Michigan’s next taste of early winter air.
After all, it’s late fall in Michigan—sunshine never stays long before the chill settles back in.
