MARQUETTE, Mich. – A thick layer of freezing fog clings to the streets and shorelines of Lake Superior this Sunday morning, coating docks, mailboxes, and parked cars with a thin glaze of frost. The still air feels heavy, the kind that demands slow driving and a steady hand on slick roads. But sunshine is waiting — and it’s set to break through by midmorning, ushering in one of the calmest stretches of late October weather the Upper Peninsula has seen this fall.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, high pressure will lock in several clear, bright days through Tuesday, keeping skies nearly cloudless and temperatures gradually moderating. Highs will climb into the mid-50s Monday, with light south winds around 10 mph. Early commuters, however, should stay alert for dense fog pockets around U.S. 41 and M-28, especially through low-lying terrain and forested valleys.

By Wednesday, temperatures ease back into the lower 50s as cooler air drifts in from the northwest. While no rain or snow is expected through midweek, forecasters say a system arriving late Thursday or Friday could bring the season’s first light showers — and a reminder that November chill isn’t far away.

For Halloween Friday, early trends point to dry, partly cloudy skies across Marquette County, with evening temperatures near 40 degrees — crisp but comfortable for trick-or-treating. Homeowners can use this calm stretch to finish outdoor cleanup or secure decorations before stronger winds return late in the week.

After all, November is waiting — and it’s already hinting at a colder turn for Michigan’s north country.
