Grand Rapids, MI – Winter is arriving in Michigan as the first measurable snowfall of the season is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Residents along the I-96 corridor and near Lake Michigan could see up to an inch of slushy snow accumulation.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, colder air combined with a strengthening low-pressure system will bring rain showers transitioning to snow by Wednesday evening. Areas near Lake Michigan and higher elevations are most likely to experience snow sticking to grassy surfaces, creating potentially slippery conditions on untreated roads.

Commuters should anticipate slower travel times, particularly on major highways like I-96 and US-131. While less than three inches of snow is currently forecast, drivers are urged to monitor updated reports as heavier bursts are possible in localized areas.

Temperatures will dip into the mid-30s overnight, making roads especially hazardous during early morning commutes Thursday. Drivers should allow extra time for travel and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows temperatures remaining below average for mid-November. Highs are expected in the 40s through the weekend, with scattered flurries possible on Friday. Conditions will dry out by Saturday, though chilly winds may persist.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts for updates and follow winter safety tips, including clearing snow from windshields and dressing warmly.
