DETROIT, Mich. – A streak of calm fall weather will break this weekend as a pair of systems brings rain, breezy winds, and cooler air to metro Detroit. After a pleasant Thursday and Friday, showers will spread across southeast Michigan by Saturday afternoon, potentially complicating weekend travel and outdoor events.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, Thursday’s sunny skies and light north winds will give way to clouds and a rising southerly breeze Friday. Temperatures will climb into the mid-60s Friday afternoon before the first wave of scattered showers moves in Friday evening, especially north of I-94 and along I-75.
Saturday will start partly sunny and mild, with highs near 75°F, but showers will return late day and become more widespread by night. Sunday brings the steadiest rain and gusty winds, particularly near Lake St. Clair and along I-96. The NWS notes up to an inch of rainfall possible through Sunday night, which could create slick roads and slowdowns for evening drivers.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor Halloween decorations and check storm drains before the rain arrives. While flooding isn’t expected, ponding on highways may occur during heavier bursts. Drier, cooler air moves in Monday, setting up a stretch of partly sunny, seasonable weather early next week—ideal for leaf viewing before late-October chill returns.
