Marquette, MI – A wintry mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet is expected to sweep across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula beginning late Thursday night and continuing through Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, the first wave of precipitation will arrive after midnight Thursday, with multiple winter weather alerts going into effect early Friday morning. Warnings and advisories stretch from Ironwood to Sault Ste. Marie, with the most severe impacts expected in Marquette, Houghton, and Republic under Winter Storm or Ice Storm Warnings.
Winds will shift east to southeast at 5 to 10 mph, gusting up to 20 mph. Temperatures will dip into the mid-20s along lakeshores and fall as low as 18°F inland, with the southern portions of the peninsula remaining slightly warmer.
Travel conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate by Friday morning, especially in areas under Ice Storm Warnings where significant ice accumulation is possible.
