Detroit, MI – A low-pressure system tracking through Ohio today is set to bring a wintry mix of light snow and rain to southeast Michigan, with impacts expected from early Tuesday morning through the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
Colder air settled into the region overnight, allowing light snow to develop early this morning. This snow will likely continue through the late morning before a surge of warmer air pushes northward, causing the snow to mix with or transition to light rain or drizzle by the afternoon. Some locations could experience brief periods of sleet during the transition.
Snow accumulations will generally remain on the lighter side, with totals of a dusting to a half inch, though isolated locations along and north of I-94, and potentially north toward I-69, may see slightly higher totals. Any accumulation will be mainly on grassy or elevated surfaces, with roads expected to stay mostly wet thanks to warmer pavement temperatures.
Temperatures will begin the morning in the 20s, rising into the mid-upper 30s by the afternoon as precipitation shifts over to all rain or drizzle. While significant travel disruption is not anticipated, early morning slick spots—especially on bridges and overpasses—cannot be ruled out.
By tonight, precipitation will taper off, and Wednesday will bring a return to dry weather, partly sunny skies, and highs climbing back into the mid-40s.
Meteorologists advise residents to use caution during the morning commute and stay alert for updates should temperatures trend slightly colder than forecast.
