ESCANABA, Mich. – The snow machine over Lake Superior continues to churn this morning, sending steady lake-effect bands sweeping across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A cold northwest flow will keep snow falling at intervals through Monday evening, coating roadways and cutting visibility in open stretches from Newberry to Gladstone.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Luce, Delta, and Northern Schoolcraft Counties. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, though totals could vary sharply across the region. Areas near southern Delta County, including Escanaba, are forecast to see less than 2 inches, while heavier bands will favor interior high ground closer to Seney and Newberry.

Drivers along U.S. 2, M-28, and M-35 should prepare for slippery stretches, brief whiteouts, and rapidly changing conditions. The National Weather Service cautions that both the Monday morning and evening commutes could be slow, particularly in spots where fresh snow repeatedly covers treated surfaces.

Motorists are urged to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow extra braking distance. Though this event is less intense than recent warnings farther west, it remains part of a broader early-season winter pattern that’s expected to persist across the Great Lakes into midweek.

By Tuesday, drier air will finally move in, giving the U.P. a short break before another clipper system develops late in the week.
