Grand Rapids, Michigan – A developing storm system could bring snow, freezing rain, and strong winds to parts of west-central Michigan this weekend into early next week, prompting a Winter Storm Watch.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says the watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through Monday evening for Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, and Mecosta counties.

Cities included in the watch area include Ludington, Baldwin, Reed City, Big Rapids, Hart, Clare, and Fremont.

Forecasters say the system could begin late Saturday night with snow and a wintry mix, producing 2 to 5 inches of snow and light ice accumulations. Additional ice up to one-tenth of an inch may develop Sunday night.

Another round of 2 to 5 inches of snow is possible Monday into Monday night as the storm continues to move through the region.

Winds could gust as high as 50 mph, which may lead to reduced visibility, blowing snow, and downed tree branches.

The storm could create hazardous travel conditions Sunday morning and again on Monday, especially on untreated roads.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as the storm track and precipitation types become clearer over the next 24 to 36 hours.
