Gaylord, MI – Winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35-45 mph are expected to taper off this evening, providing some relief after a series of windy days in northern Michigan. However, these conditions still pose a risk to trees, especially those already damaged from previous storms.

According to the National Weather Service, areas like the Straits of Mackinac and northern lower Michigan have been experiencing the strongest winds. Although these gusts will weaken overnight, the risk of downed trees and debris remains elevated.

Temperatures are forecasted to drop into the upper teens and low 20s overnight, bringing a chilly start to Friday. However, the region will see clearer skies and light winds, making for a pleasant Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s.

While the winds settle, rivers in some areas remain elevated due to recent rainfall. Flooding concerns are ongoing along rivers like the Manistee and Rifle, which may see minor to moderate flooding. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and river levels at water.noaa.gov.

Looking ahead, Monday will bring snow accumulation to parts of northern Michigan, with several inches possible by the afternoon. Stay tuned for updates as this system evolves.
