Detroit, MI – A wind advisory is in effect for all of Michigan until 8 p.m. Saturday as strong winds sweep across the state. Residents should prepare for gusts reaching up to 55 mph, which could lead to power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit and Grand Rapids, sustained south winds of 20 to 30 mph will intensify throughout the day, with the strongest gusts expected in central, southwest, and west-central Michigan. Cities including Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, and Kalamazoo will be affected.

The advisory warns that unsecured objects may be blown around, and tree limbs could come down, potentially causing localized power disruptions. High-profile vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, may experience difficulty on the road, especially on highways and open areas.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and use caution while driving. Those traveling should keep both hands on the wheel and be prepared for sudden gusts. If power outages occur, avoid downed power lines and report outages to local utility providers.

The winds are expected to subside by Saturday evening, with calmer conditions returning overnight into Sunday. Stay updated with local weather alerts for any changes.
