DETROIT, Mich. — Michigan is expected to see a modest temperature rebound around Valentine’s Day, though winter weather concerns will remain as rain and snow chances linger across the state from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s in Detroit and surrounding areas, edging above freezing during the afternoon hours. Overnight lows are expected to fall back into the 20s, creating conditions favorable for mixed precipitation as weak weather systems pass through the region.

Forecast models indicate an unsettled pattern through the period, with several chances for light precipitation rather than a single significant storm. Southern and central Lower Michigan, including the Detroit metro area, may see periods of rain or a rain-snow mix during the daytime, while snow becomes more likely overnight as temperatures cool. Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are expected to see more consistent snow chances.

While widespread heavy snow is not currently expected, light accumulations and intermittent freezing conditions could result in slick travel, particularly during the early morning and overnight hours. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles may also lead to icy patches on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses.

Temperatures are expected to fluctuate near seasonal averages through the end of the forecast period, with no sustained warmup anticipated. Residents planning Valentine’s Day weekend travel or activities should monitor updated forecasts, as small temperature changes could significantly affect precipitation type and road conditions between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20.
