Marquette, Michigan – Drivers across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula could face slick roads and reduced visibility starting Tuesday evening as a snowstorm develops over Marquette County ahead of the Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. Forecast models indicate 3 to 9 inches of snow may accumulate across the county, with the highest totals expected in the higher terrain near Marquette and Gwinn.
The storm is expected to intensify Tuesday night, potentially impacting major routes including U.S. 41 and M-553, which serve as key travel corridors between Marquette, Gwinn, and surrounding communities. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could create difficult driving conditions during both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.
Higher elevations inland from Lake Superior may see the most significant totals as colder air and upslope conditions enhance snowfall rates. Even lower elevations near the lakeshore could still see several inches of accumulation.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for slower travel, allow extra time for commutes, and monitor road conditions across Marquette County.
The Winter Storm Watch continues through Wednesday afternoon, and forecasters note snowfall totals and the exact track of heavier bands may still shift as the storm approaches.
