Michigan — Light flakes swirl through gray skies this morning as wet pavement glistens across West Michigan. Conditions are already slippery in spots, and more hazards are lining up as February winter weather tightens its grip.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow develops early today, mixing with freezing rain at times. Patchy fog may further reduce visibility during the morning commute. Snowfall remains light overall, with less than one inch expected, but even minor accumulation can create travel problems when temperatures stay below freezing.

Temperatures climb only into the upper 20s today, while southwest winds gust over 20 mph. Snow transitions to a wintry mix this evening, then tapers late tonight. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become icy, especially along US-131, I-96, and M-6.

Friday brings another round of wintry weather. Snow mixes with freezing rain early before changing to plain snow by late morning. Winds strengthen through the afternoon, gusting near 30 mph, which may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility. Highs reach the mid-30s briefly, then temperatures fall sharply Friday night.

By Friday night, colder air pours in. Lows drop near zero, and wind chills plunge below -5 degrees. Any melted snow will refreeze quickly, increasing the risk of black ice.

Saturday stays bitterly cold but mostly sunny. Highs struggle near 20 degrees. A chance of snow returns Saturday night, followed by cloudy and cold conditions Sunday with highs in the mid-20s.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook hints at gradual moderation next week. Temperatures trend closer to seasonal levels, though winter isn’t finished yet across the Great Lakes.

Slow down on slick roads, allow extra stopping distance, and watch for sudden changes in visibility. Seeing icy spots or fog where you are? Share what conditions look like near you.
