Michigan — Bitter cold tightens its grip across southeast Michigan before sunrise, creating dangerous conditions early this morning. Wind sweeps across the region, driving temperatures and wind chills well below zero.
In Detroit, current temperatures hover near 2°F, while wind chills sit near -17°F. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning, warning of potentially hazardous cold exposure. Forecasters note that wind chills between 15 and 20 degrees below zero are possible across much of southeast Michigan.
Light snow showers move through the area at times today. Forecast guidance shows a chance of snow showers, with minor accumulation possible, generally described as a dusting. While snowfall amounts remain limited, visibility may briefly lower during passing snow bands, especially during the morning commute.
Road conditions could be affected as cold pavement allows snow to stick quickly. Travel impacts are expected to be localized but slick, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and ramps. Drivers should allow extra time and reduce speeds during snow bursts.
Temperatures recover only slightly this afternoon. Highs reach near 19°F, keeping conditions well below normal. Winds remain active, sustaining biting wind chills throughout the day.
Tonight brings clearing skies and another sharp temperature drop. Lows fall near 2°F, with wind chills again dipping well below zero. Wednesday remains cold, with highs around 15°F, followed by another frigid night near 1°F.
By Thursday, sunshine returns with highs near 13°F, before a modest warm-up begins late week. Friday temperatures rise toward 12°F, though overnight lows remain below freezing.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals. While snowfall remains light, the cold itself poses the greatest risk across southeast Michigan today.
