Detroit, Michigan – Isolated thunderstorms could bring 60 mph wind gusts across Southeast Michigan north of I-94 this afternoon, with the Saginaw Bay region and Thumb most at risk for damaging weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday. Storms are expected to develop between 4 and 8 p.m., moving southeast at 30 mph. The primary concern is strong straight-line winds; no tornado or large hail threat is expected.

Communities from Saginaw to Port Huron—including Flint, Sandusky, and Pontiac—should secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary driving, and stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions. While rainfall may be brief, wind damage to trees and power lines is possible.

This round of storms is linked to an upper-level disturbance pushing through the region. Though coverage will be scattered, any stronger cells could disrupt early evening commutes and outdoor plans.

More updates may follow if storms intensify. Monitor alerts and be prepared to shelter indoors until the threat clears by tonight.
