Marquette, Mich. – Thunderstorms will keep rolling across Upper Michigan through Monday, leaving drivers on U.S. 41 and local roads facing wet and sometimes foggy conditions. Travelers should plan extra time and avoid nighttime driving when visibility drops.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, scattered thunderstorms will persist Saturday night before intensifying on Sunday and Monday. The most unsettled period arrives Monday afternoon, when storms could bring heavy downpours, brief gusty winds, and patchy fog.

Marquette, Houghton, and Escanaba can expect the highest rain chances, with showers potentially slowing the Monday morning commute. South winds near 10 mph may push lake moisture inland, adding to visibility problems along stretches of M-28 and U.S. 41.

Weekend plans may also be interrupted. Saturday brings a mix of sun and showers, while Sunday features widespread rain lasting into the evening. Campers and boaters should stay alert for lightning and avoid open water when storms approach.

Rainfall totals may reach half an inch in some spots, enough to create standing water on low-lying roads. Residents should check storm drains and clear debris to reduce localized flooding.

Conditions improve by Tuesday, with skies turning mostly cloudy before drier air returns midweek. However, forecasters note additional fall storm systems could track into the region later next week.

Warnings remain in place through Monday night, and residents are urged to monitor updated alerts.
