Gaylord, Mich. – Showers and thunderstorms are moving across northern Michigan this afternoon, with the strongest activity expected south of M-32. Drivers could encounter localized downpours and frequent lightning, especially in areas stretching toward Saginaw Bay later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the best window for storm development will be late Thursday morning into the early afternoon. Radar indicates clusters of showers forming near Gaylord and Traverse City, then sliding southeast toward Midland and Bay City. While widespread severe weather is not expected, the main concern remains heavy rainfall and lightning within the strongest storms.

Travelers on I-75 and US-127 should be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions, including reduced visibility during heavier rain. Outdoor activities, particularly boating on Saginaw Bay and inland lakes, may need to be delayed until storms pass.

The unsettled pattern may bring additional showers into the evening, though most activity should taper off by tonight. Forecasters note more advisories could be issued if storm intensity increases.
