Lansing, Mich. – Damaging winds and heavy downpours could sweep across Central Lower Michigan from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday as thunderstorms intensify in the afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, storms may begin Saturday morning but are expected to strengthen after midday, particularly south of a Muskegon-to-Mount Pleasant line. The primary threats are strong straight-line winds and locally heavy rain, though a marginal risk of hail and isolated tornadoes remains.

Cities including Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Ann Arbor are under a Level 2 – Slight Risk zone for severe weather. Power outages and downed limbs are possible if storms reach severe levels. Travel on major routes like I-94 and US-131 could be impacted by reduced visibility and slick roads during peak storm hours.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during the most active storm window. Charge phones and keep flashlights ready in case of outages.
