Detroit, Michigan – Temperatures are plunging as much as 30 degrees across southeast Michigan today, creating a sharp chill that will quickly give way to rain and then a rapid warmup with thunderstorms by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph are driving much colder air into the region, holding daytime highs in the upper 30s to low 40s from Flint to Detroit and Port Huron. Light rain is expected to develop through the day, especially south of I-69 toward the Ohio border.
By tonight, cloudy skies and expanding rain coverage will keep temperatures in the 30s, with conditions remaining damp into early Thursday. Roads across metro Detroit, including I-75 and I-94, could become slick during periods of steady rain, especially during early commutes.
Thursday brings a rapid shift. Morning showers will give way to rising temperatures, climbing into the 60s across much of southeast Michigan and nearing 70 degrees in Detroit by late afternoon. That warming trend sets the stage for thunderstorms developing later in the day, some of which could impact the evening commute.
Conditions turn quieter and warmer by Friday, with highs reaching the mid-60s to mid-70s. Additional updates are expected as Thursday’s storm potential becomes clearer.
