Grand Rapids, Michigan – Scorching heat and a growing thunderstorm threat will converge over southwest and central Michigan Friday, July 25, creating potential hazards for commuters and outdoor events across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Heat Advisory remains in effect Thursday until 8 p.m., but a new wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to impact the area Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The storms could bring winds up to 18 mph and rainfall totals near a quarter inch. US-131 and I-96 could be affected during peak travel hours.

Friday’s high will reach 88°F, with oppressive humidity and heat index values lingering from Thursday’s extreme conditions. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity midday, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Weekend weather shifts to cooler, wetter conditions. Rain and thunderstorms are likely Saturday, especially after 2 p.m., with a high near 85°F. Sunday offers relief, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 89°F — ideal for outdoor activities if you dodge leftover puddles.
