MARQUETTE, Mich. – The sound of wind whipping off Lake Superior fills the air this morning as gusty west winds continue to rattle through the Upper Peninsula. Branches sway, waves crash against the Marquette breakwall, and wet pavement gleams in headlights—a raw, windy start that sets the tone for an unsettled early November week.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, gusts up to 35 mph will persist through today before easing later this afternoon. While skies briefly clear tonight, more clouds and scattered showers are set to move in by Tuesday evening as a new system slides across the Great Lakes. Temperatures will hover in the low 50s Tuesday before dropping toward the upper 40s by midweek.

Wednesday brings a 50–60% chance of rain showers, especially along the U.S. 41 corridor and near the higher terrain west of town. Roads could turn slick at times as colder air filters in late Wednesday night. By the weekend, that cooler air deepens, and models hint at a possible rain-to-snow mix Friday into Saturday—a typical early November transition for the U.P.

To be fair, no heavy snow is expected yet, but this pattern marks the first clear sign of winter’s approach. Residents are encouraged to finish leaf cleanup and prep vehicles for colder, wetter commutes ahead of Thanksgiving travel season.
