Detroit, Michigan – Quiet, sunny conditions today will give way to wet roads by early Sunday morning as the first round of showers and thunderstorms moves into southeast Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, dry and cool weather holds through Saturday with highs in the mid-50s, but a significant warming trend begins Sunday as temperatures climb into the 70s. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop as early as Sunday morning, increasing in coverage through the day and continuing into the workweek.
Metro Detroit, including Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Sterling Heights, could see periods of rain impacting I-94, I-75, and M-59, especially during morning and evening commutes. By Monday and Tuesday, highs range from the mid-70s to near 80°F, fueling additional rounds of storms with brief heavy downpours and reduced visibility under one mile.
While severe weather details remain uncertain, stronger storms could produce gusty winds and lightning, particularly during afternoon peak heating hours.
Drivers should prepare for changing conditions starting Sunday morning, allow extra travel time during storms, and monitor alerts throughout the week. The unsettled pattern is expected to persist through at least midweek, with additional updates likely.
