Grand Rapids, MI – Western Michigan residents should brace for steady snow showers today, with accumulations reaching 3 inches by evening. Areas along US-131 and near Kalamazoo could experience heavier snowfall, making travel potentially hazardous during peak hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow showers will continue throughout the day and transition to lake-effect snow by the evening. Heavier bands are expected west of a line from Grand Haven to Kalamazoo, with accumulations tapering inland. High temperatures will hover between 21 and 25 degrees, and winds gusting up to 15 mph may reduce visibility on roadways.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. today, with another round of snow showers likely overnight. Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and remain alert for slick spots, particularly along US-131 and other major routes.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring lighter snow flurries early in the day before conditions clear by evening. Temperatures will drop to a high of 23 degrees, and the weekend forecast calls for another chance of snow Saturday. Saturday’s snow could bring up to 2 inches, with lows dipping into the teens. Sunday offers a brief reprieve, with partly sunny skies and a high of 25 degrees.
Residents should stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for icy roads and reduced visibility through Saturday.
