Detroit, Michigan – Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could slow the morning commute across Southeast Michigan as scattered to numerous snow showers move through the region, followed by strong winds that may make travel difficult through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, snow showers will continue this morning with minor accumulations possible, especially on untreated roads. Winds are expected to increase this afternoon, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and brief visibility drops even after steady snowfall ends.

The highest impacts are expected across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Monroe counties, including major routes such as I-75, I-94, and I-96. While snow totals remain light, rapid changes in road conditions could catch drivers off guard, particularly during heavier bursts of snow combined with gusty winds.

Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and keep headlights on during snow showers. Winds may also make it feel colder than actual temperatures, especially for anyone working outdoors or waiting for public transit.

Looking ahead, a warming trend arrives early next week before much colder air pushes back into Michigan by midweek. Additional weather advisories may be issued as conditions change.
