Marquette, MI – A winter storm is set to bring accumulating snow and strong winds across Upper Michigan starting tonight and lasting through Saturday night. Travelers should prepare for slippery roads, low visibility, and potential wind gusts reaching 55 mph, especially in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service, the first round of snowfall will begin late Wednesday night, dropping 1 to 3 inches before Thursday morning. Additional snow will arrive Thursday afternoon, with another 2 to 5 inches possible. Winds will strengthen by Thursday evening, creating blowing and drifting snow that could impact major highways, including US-41 and M-28.

A second system is expected Saturday, bringing another round of light snowfall. While significant accumulation is not anticipated, icy conditions could make travel hazardous. Drivers should exercise caution and check local road conditions before heading out.

Temperatures will remain cold, with highs in the 20s and wind chills near zero. Residents should prepare for winter driving conditions and secure loose outdoor objects due to strong winds. The National Weather Service advises checking for updates as conditions evolve.
