Lower Michigan will experience a mix of clear skies and seasonally cool temperatures today, but rain showers are anticipated starting Wednesday night and continuing through Thursday, impacting metro Detroit and surrounding areas. Commuters are advised to prepare for potential delays as roads may become slick with the expected showers.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit, high pressure moving across the state today will bring mild temperatures ranging from 46-49°F, accompanied by afternoon sunshine. Winds will shift from the north, weakening as they head east, creating calm and dry conditions. By Wednesday, temperatures will reach highs of 49-53°F, but clouds will thicken throughout the day, leading to an increased chance of rain by night.

Showers are expected to begin around 1 a.m. on Thursday, with a 70% chance of precipitation overnight and up to a 90% chance of rain through Thursday morning, as per the NWS. Winds will pick up from the southeast at speeds of 8 to 13 mph, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph, which could make driving challenging during peak commute hours.

As the low-pressure system clears out by Thursday evening, Friday is predicted to bring drier weather with partly sunny skies and highs reaching 54°F. Weekend temperatures will slightly increase, reaching the mid-50s, with mostly sunny conditions on Saturday and a chance of clouds on Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for rain Wednesday night through Thursday. Commuters should anticipate potentially hazardous conditions on major roads such as I-75, I-94, and I-96, with slick spots and low visibility expected.
