Gaylord, Michigan – Showers and thunderstorms are ramping up across northern lower Michigan today, with the strongest storms expected this evening. Residents should prepare for bursts of locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds that could impact travel and outdoor plans across much of the region.

According to the US National Weather Service in Gaylord, isolated strong to severe storms are possible, particularly north of M-72, bringing rain totals high enough to cause ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Temperatures will reach highs between 76 and 88 degrees before a sharp cool-down moves in Thursday.

Tonight, rain and thunderstorms will continue, especially south of M-72, where heavier rainfall could lead to localized flooding. Gusty winds may also down small branches and cause brief power interruptions. Motorists are urged to slow down during heavy downpours and avoid flooded roads. It’s a good time to check flashlights, charge cell phones, and secure loose outdoor items.

Thursday brings lingering morning showers, but cooler and drier air will spread across northern Michigan by the afternoon. Daytime highs will drop into the 60s and 70s—a significant shift from today’s summer warmth.

More weather advisories may be issued as conditions evolve. Stay tuned to local alerts for the latest updates.
