Gaylord, Michigan – Scattered thunderstorms and potentially severe weather could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across northern Michigan Saturday, especially in areas west of I-75. Torrential rainfall and damaging winds remain the main concerns from late Friday through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered storms will move in Friday night, primarily affecting Northwest Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula. The storm window on Saturday spans from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with redevelopment likely during the afternoon if conditions remain favorable.

Communities at highest risk include Alpena, Tawas, Gladwin, West Branch, and the AuSable River Valley, where the environment is primed for severe activity. Wind gusts, localized flooding, and difficult travel conditions are all possible. Campers, boaters, and vacationers in low-lying or forested areas are urged to have multiple ways to receive alerts and know their nearest safe shelter locations.

Drivers along I-75 should use caution, as downpours could reduce visibility and create hydroplaning risks. Stay off roads during heavy rain and secure outdoor gear in advance.

Storm activity is expected to ease by Saturday night, but additional advisories could be issued as the system evolves.
