Grand Rapids, MI – A High Wind Warning remains in effect for much of western Michigan from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday, with forecasters warning of damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, sustained west winds of 25 to 35 mph will accompany stronger gusts capable of toppling trees and power lines. The warning covers Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties, including major lakeshore communities such as Ludington, Grand Haven, Holland, and South Haven.
Officials warn that the strongest winds are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, creating hazardous travel for high-profile vehicles on highways including US-31, I-96, and I-196. Scattered power outages and tree damage are also likely as the storm moves through.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, stay indoors when possible, and report downed lines to authorities rather than attempting to move them. Motorists are advised to use caution, particularly near open stretches along the lakeshore.
