Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is bracing for another day of near-record warmth Sunday as dry, gusty conditions heighten the risk of fires across the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit/Pontiac office.

The agency reported that highs are expected to reach the mid-80s in many areas, with winds from the southwest adding to the elevated fire danger. “Very warm, breezy winds and dry vegetation will result in elevated fire weather conditions today,” NWS said in its early-morning advisory.

Humidity levels will remain low through the afternoon, further drying out ground cover and vegetation. No significant rainfall is expected until late Monday, when a system moving through the Great Lakes brings a chance of showers and a few thunderstorms.

The heat is forecast to continue into Monday, with temperatures again reaching the lower to mid-80s before a cooldown arrives midweek. Cooler, fall-like temperatures are expected to settle in by Wednesday as the weather pattern shifts.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with equipment that could spark fires.
