Michigan – Snow whips sideways across Lake Superior this morning as waves pound the shoreline and visibility collapses inland. The air feels sharp and raw. Drifts rise quickly, and travel becomes nearly impossible as winter flexes its full force.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect for Marquette and Alger counties through 7 p.m. Monday. Snowfall totals are expected to reach 14 to 24 inches, with the highest amounts inland and in higher terrain. Northwest winds gust as high as 65 mph, creating prolonged whiteout conditions.

At the same time, a Lakeshore Flood Warning remains active along Lake Superior. Powerful onshore winds push water inland, flooding roads, parks, and low-lying properties near the shoreline. Some lakeside roads may close as waves overtop barriers and erode beaches.

Temperatures hover near 21 degrees this morning, but wind chills plunge well below zero. Snow falls steadily through the day, with the worst conditions expected from morning through late afternoon. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

Highways including US-41 and M-28 may become impassable at times. If travel cannot be delayed, drivers should carry survival kits and prepare for extended delays. Power outages remain possible as heavy snow loads lines and strong winds damage trees.

Snow showers continue tonight and into Tuesday, though winds gradually ease. Additional accumulations remain likely, keeping roads slick and visibility reduced. Flash freezing becomes a concern where snow briefly compacts or melts.

Looking ahead, snow chances persist through midweek. New Year’s Eve stays cold with lingering snow showers. New Year’s Day 2026 brings quieter weather but bitter cold, with highs near 12 degrees.

This storm caps the final days of 2025 with serious impacts. Are you sheltering in place, or seeing flooding or whiteouts near you?
