Detroit, Michigan – A stretch of mild but unsettled weather is setting up across southeast Michigan, bringing rain, warming temperatures, and wet roads as the region heads toward the end of the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, spotty light rain or drizzle may linger early today before skies remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures climb into the mid-30s to near 40 this afternoon, marking the start of a late-week warming trend that becomes more noticeable Thursday and Friday.
Rain showers are expected to move into the region late Thursday and continue through Thursday night into early Friday morning. High temperatures Thursday are forecast to reach the mid-40s to around 50, with Friday potentially pushing into the 50s across parts of metro Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor, and Monroe. Some locations could approach record highs for early January.
The steady rain late Thursday night may slow travel along major routes such as I-75, I-94, and I-96, especially during overnight and early morning hours Friday. While flooding is not expected, ponding on roads and reduced visibility are possible.
Colder air returns this weekend, with temperatures dropping back into the 40s Saturday and the 30s by Sunday. Rain tapers off early Friday, and no winter precipitation is currently expected with this system. Additional updates may follow as timing and rainfall coverage become clearer.
