Michigan – Light snow and lake effect bands are continuing across parts of northern Michigan early Friday, creating slippery road conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect Friday morning for several northern Michigan counties due to ongoing snow showers.
An advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST for Antrim, Otsego, Kalkaska, and Crawford counties, where localized snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible. Snowfall rates may vary sharply over short distances as lake effect bands shift.
In western Chippewa County, a separate advisory is now in effect until 11 a.m. EST, with lake effect snow producing additional accumulations up to 3 inches. Visibility may be reduced at times under heavier snow bands.
Officials warn that slippery road conditions are likely across all advisory areas, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and secondary routes. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning commute, particularly where snow bands briefly intensify.
The National Weather Service notes that lake effect snow can change rapidly, with conditions ranging from locally heavy snow to dry pavement within just a few miles. Drivers are urged to remain alert for sudden reductions in visibility and quickly changing road conditions.
Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling this morning.
For commuters, students, and early-shift workers across northern Michigan, the advisories signal continued winter driving hazards until conditions improve later this morning.
