Marquette, MI – Residents across Upper Michigan should brace for a winter weather pattern bringing gusty winds, lake-effect snow showers, and frigid temperatures this week. Dense fog will linger through today before a cold front moves in, with gusts reaching 40-45 mph tonight across the Keweenaw Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, the lake-effect snow will primarily impact western Upper Michigan, including the Keweenaw, late Monday and into Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop steadily, with daytime highs ranging from 30°F to 35°F. Visibility may also become limited in areas experiencing heavier snow bands and fog. Motorists, especially on US-41 and M-28, should drive cautiously.

Extended Forecast:

• Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered lake-effect snow showers. Highs will reach 32°F, while gusty winds up to 30 mph continue overnight.

• Wednesday: Snow chances increase with 50% likelihood, and temperatures drop further, with highs near 21°F. Wind chills may dip into single digits.

• Thursday: Widespread snow showers are likely by the afternoon, with a high of just 24°F. Snowfall totals remain uncertain but could significantly impact travel.

• Friday: Snow showers persist, with highs around 25°F.

Local officials advise residents to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for changing road conditions this week. The hazardous winds expected late Monday could result in downed branches or brief power outages. Travelers are encouraged to check for real-time updates and avoid nonessential driving during peak snowfall periods.
