Gaylord, Michigan – Multiple Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across northern and Upper Michigan as lake effect snow continues to impact travel conditions through Friday evening, with some areas affected into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, an advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for Crawford, Missaukee, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Roscommon counties. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch are expected, but blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility, with occasional whiteout conditions possible in open areas. Travel could be very difficult, particularly during the Friday morning commute.

In Upper Michigan, the National Weather Service in Marquette reports advisories remain in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for Ontonagon, Baraga, and southern Houghton counties, where up to 3 inches of additional lake effect snow is possible. Slippery roads and reduced visibility are expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes.

Farther east, Alger, Luce, and northern Schoolcraft counties remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 a.m. Saturday. These areas could see an additional 3 to 9 inches of snow, with the highest totals north of M-28 in Luce County. Blowing snow may further reduce visibility and make travel very difficult.

Forecasters emphasize that lake effect snow can vary sharply over short distances, with conditions rapidly changing from clear to hazardous. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to remain slick.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for sudden visibility drops. Residents across northern and Upper Michigan should continue to monitor forecast updates and limit travel during the most hazardous periods.
