Marquette, MI – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette has issued Winter Weather Advisories for much of the Upper Peninsula, warning of lake effect snow from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the NWS, total accumulations will vary widely, with most areas expecting 2 to 6 inches, while the heaviest snow bands could bring up to 10 inches in parts of Marquette and Alger counties. The advisories cover Luce, Delta, Schoolcraft, Keweenaw, Houghton, Ontonagon, Gogebic, Baraga, Alger, and Marquette Counties.

Winds gusting up to 35 mph will accompany the snow in some locations, creating low visibility and slick roads—especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Forecasters caution that lake effect snow can shift quickly, leaving some areas nearly dry while others experience heavy snow bursts just a few miles away. Drivers are urged to slow down and plan extra time for travel through Monday evening.

The most persistent lake effect bands are expected near the Lake Superior shoreline, with travel likely most hazardous overnight and into early Monday.

Residents should monitor the latest updates from the National Weather Service and local road agencies throughout the weekend.
