Kalkaska, MI — Kalkaska County residents face hazardous travel conditions Tuesday as a winter storm brings heavy snow and whiteout conditions, with snowfall expected until 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m., with up to one inch of additional snow expected. A Winter Weather Advisory will follow from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., bringing an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous. Falling and blowing snow may reduce visibility below 1/4 mile in open areas, making travel difficult and potentially dangerous. The morning commute is expected to be significantly impacted.

Residents are urged to slow down, use caution, and be prepared for rapid weather changes. Lake effect snow can cause varying conditions, with heavy snowfall in some areas and clear skies just miles away. Travelers should remain alert to sudden drops in visibility and deteriorating road conditions throughout Tuesday.
