Detroit, MI – Heavy thunderstorms moving across southeast Michigan overnight are raising the risk for flooding across the Detroit metro region through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon for much of southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, Lenawee, and St. Clair counties. Major cities impacted include Detroit, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Port Huron, Monroe, Adrian, and Howell.

Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to track across the region through midday, producing bursts of heavy rainfall that could overwhelm storm drains and small creeks. Urban areas such as Detroit, Warren, and Pontiac are particularly vulnerable where pavement and limited drainage allow water to accumulate quickly.

Low-lying roads, underpasses, and neighborhoods near smaller streams could see water levels rise rapidly if repeated storms move over the same locations. Drivers are urged to slow down during heavy rain and never attempt to cross water-covered roads.

Rainfall intensity is expected to decrease later Wednesday afternoon as storms shift east. Officials warn that additional flood advisories or warnings could be issued if rainfall totals increase or flooding develops during the morning commute.
