Detroit, Mich. – Drivers across southeast Michigan could wake up to slick conditions Thursday morning as heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms move through the region overnight. Roadways including I-75 and I-94 may see standing water, creating delays during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, an 80% chance of rain remains in place through the overnight hours, with rainfall totals ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Localized downpours could produce higher amounts. The storms are not expected to turn severe, but motorists should reduce speed and allow extra travel time.

Showers taper by Thursday morning, with clouds breaking by afternoon. Temperatures will stay mild, reaching the upper 60s. Breezy northwest winds may bring cooler air into Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties as the system exits.

Friday looks brighter, with highs in the low 70s under partly sunny skies. Breezy conditions could still impact outdoor events, including high school football games, but no rain is expected. Saturday continues the fall-like trend with cooler highs in the upper 60s, making for ideal tailgating weather across Detroit and Ann Arbor.

The stretch into early next week turns even sunnier, with highs climbing into the mid-70s by Monday and Tuesday. Dry air will dominate, making for several pleasant fall days.

Residents are urged to stay cautious overnight but can expect more stable conditions heading into the weekend. Updates remain possible if rainfall totals climb higher than expected.
