Gaylord, MI – A wet and windy weekend is ahead for northern Michigan, as widespread rain and thunderstorms move across the region tonight and into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
Showers and storms will continue to shift east through Saturday, followed by a brief lull this evening. Fog will develop early tonight, then a steady, and at times heavy, rain will spread north overnight, reaching areas near Saginaw Bay and northeast Lower Michigan by daybreak Sunday.
Forecasters expect rainfall totals between 1–2 inches for most areas, with localized amounts near 3 inches possible. Winds will also strengthen Sunday, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph, especially along the Lake Michigan and Lake Huron shorelines.
Drivers should use caution on slick roads and prepare for reduced visibility in fog and heavy rain. Coastal residents are also advised to secure outdoor items ahead of Sunday’s gusty winds.
