Michigan Weather Alert: Gale Warnings Wed–Fri, Waves Up to 18 FT

Detroit, MI – The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Gale Warning from Wednesday morning through Friday morning for Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair, and Michigan waters of Lake Erie.

Sustained winds of 30 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots, are expected, creating waves between 15 and 18 feet, with occasional maximums up to 26 feet on Lake Huron.

Marine travel will be dangerous during this period, especially for smaller vessels. Sailors and boaters are urged to remain in port and avoid open waters until conditions improve late Friday.

The strongest winds will occur Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday, shifting southwest to northwest as a cold front moves through.
