Michigan Weather Alert: Gale Warning Today for Lake Huron, Significant Waves Expected

Detroit, MI – A gale warning is in effect today for central and southern Lake Huron, bringing hazardous winds and waves. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, extends from noon Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, winds will range from 25 to 30 knots, with gusts reaching up to 40 knots. Waves are predicted to reach between 7 and 12 feet, with maximum wave heights of 18 feet in some areas. Boaters are strongly urged to avoid the lake during this period, as conditions will be dangerous.

Tonight, rain and snow are expected to develop across southeast Michigan, with a high of 34°F and gusts of up to 31 mph. Accumulations will remain minimal, with less than half an inch of snow forecasted.

Saturday will bring rain and snow showers before tapering off by midday. Temperatures will drop throughout the day, with a low near 13°F Saturday night. Sunday will see highs near 19°F, followed by bitterly cold conditions on Martin Luther King Day, with a high of just 8°F.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor objects and monitor updates. Drivers should prepare for slick roads this weekend, particularly during rain-to-snow transitions.
